28 June 2026 | The Gurkha Centre | Hayes | By Hari Bhandari

The Gurkha Centre is delighted to announce the launch of our Healthy Futures Summer Food and Activity Programme 2026, a free, inclusive initiative designed to support children and families during the summer holidays.
Running over 16 days across four days each week, the programme will take place from 27 July to 28 August 2026, between 10:00am and 3:00pm, in Hayes, London Borough of Hillingdon.
The project has been made possible through the generous support of Comic Relief and Sainsbury’s, administered by the London Community Foundation. We extend our sincere gratitude for their confidence in our work and their commitment to improving the lives of children and families across our communities.
Their investment will enable children to enjoy nutritious meals, healthy snacks, sports and physical activities, creative arts, cultural learning opportunities, and hands-on cooking experiences, including our popular momo-making workshops that celebrate food, culture, and togetherness.
Supporting Children and Families This Summer
The Healthy Futures Programme has been designed to address holiday food insecurity while promoting healthy lifestyles, social inclusion, confidence building, and community cohesion. Children from all backgrounds will have opportunities to make new friends, learn new skills, stay active, and enjoy a safe and welcoming environment throughout the school holidays.
We are currently inviting parents and carers living in Hillingdon, Hounslow, and Ealing to contact us if they have children who may benefit from participating in the programme and meet the eligibility criteria.
Places are limited, and we encourage families to register their interest as early as possible.
Behind the scenes, our staff, trustees, volunteers, and partners are working tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the programme is well planned, safe, inclusive, and enjoyable. Significant effort is being invested in safeguarding arrangements, volunteer training, activity planning, food provision, risk assessments, and programme evaluation to deliver an experience that children and families will remember positively.

We Welcome Volunteers
We are also seeking enthusiastic volunteers who would like to dedicate some of their time this summer to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people.
Whether you have experience in sports, arts and crafts, cooking, health and wellbeing, education, photography, youth work, or simply a passion for helping others, we would love to hear from you.
Volunteering with The Gurkha Centre provides an excellent opportunity to:
- Build confidence and develop new skills.
- Gain valuable experience working with children and communities.
- Meet new people and contribute to a worthwhile cause.
- Support healthier and more connected communities.
- Receive a reference recognising your contribution and commitment.
We deeply value the time, knowledge, and expertise that volunteers bring to our work, and we remain profoundly grateful for their dedication.
