Introduction
On what would have been the 100th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we pause to reflect with deep respect, gratitude, and remembrance. Her extraordinary reign of 70 years symbolised continuity, duty, and unwavering service to the nation and the Commonwealth. For the Gurkha community in the United Kingdom, her legacy carries a profound and personal significance—one rooted in honour, loyalty, and shared history.

A Monarch of Service and Connection
Her Majesty’s relationship with the Gurkha soldiers and their families was built on mutual respect and recognition of their exceptional service to the British Army. Over decades, Gurkhas served with distinction under her reign, contributing to peacekeeping, defence, and global stability. Her leadership embodied the very values—discipline, humility, and service—that resonate deeply within the Gurkha ethos.

Reflecting on the Platinum Jubilee: A Community Celebration (2022)
In June 2022, The Gurkha Centre had the honour of marking Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee—70 remarkable years of service—through a vibrant and heartfelt community celebration in West London.
Held at Golden Sip Restaurant, Harrow, the event brought together Gurkha veterans, their families, and community members in a spirit of unity and pride. The evening was made possible through the valued support of Sungabha Entertainment, whose coordination ensured a memorable cultural programme.

Our Coordinating Officer, Srijana Rai, encouraged attendees to reflect not only on Her Majesty’s achievements but also on their own life journeys—celebrating resilience, contribution, and community strength. This message resonated deeply with many of our veterans and families, whose lives reflect similar values of dedication and perseverance.

The event featured outstanding performances from renowned Nepalese artists including Ram Limbu, Sanju Moktan, Furke Laure, and DJ Nil Bahadur. Their music created an atmosphere of joy, nostalgia, and cultural pride, allowing the community to celebrate both heritage and shared identity.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Deb Gurung and the entire Golden Sip team for their warm hospitality, excellent venue, and exceptional food, which contributed significantly to the success of the evening.
Community Impact and Significance
The Platinum Jubilee celebration was more than a cultural event—it was a moment of collective reflection and belonging. For many Gurkha veterans and their families, it provided:
- A platform to honour their service under Her Majesty’s reign
- An opportunity to strengthen social connections and reduce isolation
- A culturally safe space to celebrate identity and heritage
- A reminder of shared history between the Crown and the Gurkha community
Such events align closely with The Gurkha Centre’s mission to promote wellbeing, community cohesion, and dignity among those who have served.

A Lasting Legacy
As we remember Her Majesty on this significant milestone, we honour not only her life but also the enduring values she championed—service, unity, and resilience. Her legacy continues to inspire communities across generations, including ours.
For The Gurkha Centre, the memory of celebrating her Platinum Jubilee in 2022 remains a proud moment—one that symbolises our community’s respect, gratitude, and connection to a remarkable monarch.
Conclusion
Though she is no longer with us, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the values she upheld. Today, on what would have been her 100th birthday, we remember her with honour and gratitude.
Long Live Her Legacy. God Save the King.
