Celebrating Culture, Community and Connection at Sakela Ubhauli 2026

The Gurkha Centre was delighted to participate in the Sakela Ubhauli 2026 celebration held at Kirat Rai House, Gambles Lane, Surrey, on Saturday, 23 May 2026, where our team had the privilege of engaging with the community through a charity information stall and a range of family-friendly activities.

One of the highlights of the day was our children’s face-painting activity, which proved extremely popular among young attendees. Children thoroughly enjoyed expressing their creativity through colourful face painting while also having the opportunity to interact with one another, build confidence, and even practise face painting themselves under the guidance of our staff and volunteers. The activity created a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment that brought smiles to many faces throughout the day.

Throughout the celebration, The Gurkha Centre’s staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries enjoyed meaningful moments of cultural connection while providing advice, information, and support through our charity stall. The event also provided an excellent opportunity to engage with community members, share information about our services, and strengthen relationships with local families and partner organisations.

We captured a number of candid moments during the event, reflecting the warmth, unity, and sense of belonging that characterised the celebration. These photographs showcase the vibrant atmosphere and highlight the importance of community gatherings in preserving culture, strengthening identity, and bringing people together.

We were privileged to witness the rich heritage, traditions, and cultural pride of the Kirat Rai community through traditional music, dance, food, and cultural expression. Events such as Sakela Ubhauli play a vital role in strengthening community bonds, promoting cultural understanding, and celebrating the diversity that enriches our society.

The Gurkha Centre extends its sincere gratitude to Kirat Rai Yayokkha UK for organising this wonderful event, as well as to the volunteers, performers, and everyone involved in making Sakela Ubhauli 2026 such a meaningful and welcoming celebration. We are proud to have been part of this special occasion and look forward to continuing our support for community events that celebrate culture, heritage, and social connection.
